HAWK ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
OCTOBER 2017
august athletes

Front Row:
Hazel Dasse - Girls Swim
Hazel is the girls team captain.  She qualified for state in two individual events and helped 3 different relays qualify to state as well, competing in 2 of them. This season Hazel was a part of the 200 freestyle relay that broke the school record.  Hazel is fun and has a contagious laugh.  She encourages all of the swimmers with gifts and kind words. She is a teammate to all, and a respected team captain.

Kaitlyn McWilliams - Girls Cross Country
Kaitlyn had her best race of they year when it mattered most, in the state qualifier meet. She had the best race of all her teammates, in terms of her season's best time. And her leadership as a captain has been exemplary.

Arelio Moran - Football
Arelio led the Hawks in tackles for the month of October.

Kenedy Jackson - Pomline
Kenedy is being honored for bringing a great attitude to practice with her as well as being supportive of her teammates and showing incredible progress.

Paul Morrison - Boys Swim
Paul is our boys team captain and a true asset to our team.  This year Paul made up a new team cheer, he led that cheer at every swim meet.  Paul traveled with the team to State and was quintessential with equipment management and team morale.  His energy and enthusiasm are contagious.

Back Row:
Sarah Jacobs - Volleyball
Due to an injury of another athlete, Sarah stepped into a starting roll at the beginning of October.  As one of the middle blockers, Sarah led the team in blocks (12) during the month.  In additional, she had 39 kills with a .377 attacking percentage.

Anthony Underwood - Boys Cross Country
Anthony has worked hard to bring his time down below 20 minutes, and he succeeded. In addition, his leadership as captain has been invaluable.

Preston Buttery - Cheer
Preston is a senior and one of the captains of the cheer squad this year. As the only male cheerleader at TVHS, Preston is not in our competition routine but he has been dedicated to learning different parts of the routine and stepping in at practice to fill any roles that are vacant. Preston always has a a positive outlook toward cheer, he is always happy and fun to be around, and he is a really good sport when singled out for being the only male cheerleader. Preston started on the cheer team as the manager during his junior year and then tried out before basketball season last year. Over the month of October Preston has helped to improve the cheer team by keeping morale up, using effective leadership communication toward the team, and filling in for anyone who is missing at practice.
