Our school district is dedicated to providing a world-class education that ensures your child is on track to succeed this year and in the future. Over the past few years, the State of Arizona has been working to raise the bar to ensure that students are prepared to be successful not just in the next grade, but also in college, career and in life. We’ve implemented the higher state standards and have asked our students to use their critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills more than they ever have before.
2017 AzMERIT Information
This spring, students in all public school districts across Arizona will be taking the AzMERIT, an assessment of English Language Arts and Math achievement. In the Tanque Verde Unified School District, testing will occur during the testing window of March 27th through April 21st, 2017.
AzMERIT is an annual assessment to measure our students' progress in mastering the state-adopted academic standards in English Language Arts and Math. It is an opportunity for parents and teachers to gain accurate information about their students' achievement and whether students are ready for the next grade and ultimately for college and career. Teachers are able to analyze test results and better tailor instruction to student needs.
At the elementary school level, students in grades three through six will participate in AzMERIT testing. At Emily Gray Jr. High School, students in grades seven and eight will participate in testing. At Tanque Verde High School, students enrolled in English 9, 10, or 11 and Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II will all participate in testing.
The Science AIMS test is another assessment given in 4th, 8th and 10th grades. This test measures our students' progress on the academic standards in Science and teachers can use the results to inform their instruction. At the high school level, the Science AIMS assessment is given to all students currently enrolled in Biology and Honors Biology.
Parents - Please make sure that your students are in attendance on testing days. Each school has communicated their testing dates. If you have questions, please call the school office.
