Career and Technical Education at TVHS

Congrats to student Bryce Altenbernd for winning a bronze medal in Prepared Speech at our recent SkillsUSA State Competition!
All year 2 program completers take a state mandated standardized test, called the Technical Skills Assessment.  This test focuses on program specific skills and ensures students have a full understanding of their program curriculum.  We are proud to announce that 100% of TVHS CTE Year 2 students passed the TSA this year!~
Year 2 students are also offered certification tests in program specific software or training courses.
  • This year, 21 of 21 students received their CPR certification through Sports Medicine.
  • 16 of 16 students passed the NIMS Certification Test in Precision Manufacturing!
  • 5 of 5 students passed the Adobe ACU Autodesk certification exam in Mechanical Drafting.
  • 100% of our Year 2/3 Stagecraft students received their 10 hour OSHA certification card
We're still testing more, too!  This is a great success for our CTE students (and their teachers!) and we are very proud of all their hard work!
CTE Needs YOU!!!

TVHS is looking for business and industry partners who can come visit our classrooms, host field trips and help us to build relevent, exciting classes that support standard industry curriculums.  We want to make sure our curriculum is up-to-date, relevant and meaningful to our students, and who can help with that better than people actually in the field?
If you are currently employed in any of the above fields, or run your own business in these fields, we'd love to have your help!   Please contact Sarah Jayne, CTE Director, at 520-760-0801 ext 1110, or email her at
These connections make a real and lasting difference to our students and we appreciate the support of our community!

What is CTE?

CTE stands for Career and Technical Education.
These classes are designed to give students hands on, real world college and career preparation.   Our programs are 2 - 3 years and offer students active work experiences, certifications and business and industry connections.  Students not only learn the skills of a trade, but practice professional skills such as interviewing, professional ettiquette, computer skills and resume writing.  Classes also focus on the building of reading and math skills.
Each CTE program gives students a chance to join a student organization, through which they can travel to workshops, leadership trainings and regional, state and national competitions.  (See link for more info on our CTSO's)
Our current offerings in CTE include the following.  Click on them to see the full class webpages.

For more information on these programs, you can contact our school counselors, CTE teachers or CTE director.  Students are always welcome to come by our classrooms for a tour, too!
