Congratulations to the winners of our 2nd annual TVHS Written Word Contest! You can see the results under the "Writing Contest" link on the green bar to the left. This year, there were over 70 great entries, so the judging took a little longer than expected.
A few things to note:
  • The judges did not know who wrote each piece. Three people judged each entry on a creative writing rubric, and their three scores were averaged to determine placement.
  • Some of you entered poems into structured verse that were actually free verse, so those were moved into the appropriate category.
  • I read most of the entries (though I wasn't a judge) and I have the judges' feedback for each piece, so if you want to know how you can improve and what you did well, just ask me!
Please remember, writing is subjective, so don't be discouraged if you didn't place as high as you'd hoped! Keep writing!

The Tanque Verde High School Library does more than books. We have comfortable chairs for reading and socializing, computers for research, and several tables for homework, meetings, and testing.

The library staff assists teachers and students with reference and research, technology use, class projects, and more.  The librarian instructs classes on good resources, works with students individually, and plans units with teachers that use the most recent technology and book resources.  We explore cutting edge technologies and websites with students in order to prepare them for college level research experiences.
The Librarian
Paige Riffle is the librarian for Tanque Verde High School. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and Near Eastern Studies from the University of Arizona. This is her second year as the TVHS Librarian/Technology Integration Specialist.
Library Collection
The high school library has over 4000 books, educational videos, and magazines geared to both adult and young adult interest. Books can be checked out for two weeks.

Library Expectations
Students are expected to be respectful and responsible at all times. To visit the library during class, students are required to have passes. Phones may not be used during a class period. Students must use inside voices. Food and drink are allowed in the tiled area only.

Helpful Areas
The computer lab in the high school library serves both teachers and students.  There are 8 additional desktops in the library for student use. The library also houses seven (!) class sets of Chromebooks that can be reserved by teachers for class use.
