Tanque Verde High School student attends youth leadership seminar on Israel
Henry Abrams, a junior at Tanque Verde High School, was selected to attend the Brandeis Young Leaders Youth Seminar on Israel Studies. The program was held at Brandeis University in Boston, from June 25-30, 2017.
The intensive program is focused on heightening students' awareness and understanding of Israeli issues. "Gaining this fundamental knowledge is critical for student leaders who wish to participate seriously in conversations about the complexity of and challenges faced by Israel," according to the program's website.
Student delegates spent the week living on campus, meeting with other students from around the country and learning from professors from Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth and Brandeis. The politics, history, culture, music, and literature of Israel were the subject of intensive study, and students then engaged in case-studies to increase their depth of knowledge.
The Abrams family noted that they truly appreciate the support of TVHS Football coach and Social Studies teacher, Jeremiah Johnson, who wrote a letter of recommendation in support of Henry's selection to attend the program.
