Pima County DOT restricting parking on Melpomene at Tanque Verde High School

The TVUSD Administration was contacted in late July by the Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT) with notification that they will be enforcing an ordinance regarding the right-of-way on north Melpomene Way, adjacent to Tanque Verde High School.

In order to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety in the area, and to maintain access to the pedestrian walkway, PCDOT is establishing a no-parking zone in areas of the frontage road which are adjacent to the parking lot entrance and exit points at the high school.

no parking signs in front of high school

The No Parking signage along the right-of-way on Melpomene has now been installed by the Pima County Department of Transportation, and parking restrictions are in effect as of July 31, 2018.

This means that dirt right-of-way parking will no longer be allowed immediately in front of the high school. Dirt parking in the right-of-way area will continue to be allowed from the baseball field south to just before Limberlost. Students and visitors parking in this area must avoid parking on or over the existing asphalt pedestrian walkway. We ask for your cooperation in adhering to the new parking restrictions.

Since being notified of the change, site and district administration have developed a short-term solution to the parking limitations. District maintenance crews have started clearing the vacant property north of our campus in order to create additional, temporary parking. The vegetation is being cleared and the site will be grated and drainage improvements will be made. The plan is to be able to allow parking in that area by the end of October. Please stay tuned for updates.

The school district administration is working on long-term solutions for providing more permanent parking on campus.

Thank you for your patience during this process.
