Due to recent concerns of ransomware attacks on school districts, The Tanque Verde Unified School District’s IT Department is currently working to remove all email addresses from the district website including teacher web pages. This change is intended to safeguard the district's electronic communications services.
Ransomware attacks can result from visiting websites, clicking links, and downloading software, but the majority of them come in as innocent looking emails. Attackers have used malicious software (malware) to capture email addresses on school district websites in Arizona (see Flagstaff USD), and then hacking into their computers, resulting in school closures and significant manpower to repair and restore their systems.
Instead of displaying an email address, there will be an online "Contact Us" form placed on each teacher web page which will generate an email to the teacher.
Parents will be able to contact teachers via the following:
The process of removing email addresses from teacher websites began on December 12th. These changes are scheduled to be in place by the start of the second semester, on Monday, January 6, 2020. We appreciate your understanding and patience while these updates are in progress.
