Athletic Banquet Wednesday, May 16!

athleticbanquet.jpg

As amazing as it may seem, we are closing in on the end of another school year which means the conclusion of another athletic season. We continue to make great progress in the growth of the Tanque Verde High School Athletic Program and improvements to our athletic facilities should be completed over the summer.

At the core of all of our athletic programs are the athletes and coaches. We as a collective group would like to show our appreciation at our annual Tanque Verde Athletic Banquet on Wednesday, May 16th at 6:30p.m in the MPR

We ask that our student-athletes dress in business casual attire (no hats, shorts, t-shirts, etc) in an effort to make this event a little more formal. We would also expect all attendees to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate for the evening.  Respect for those speaking and being recognized is appreciated.

Each athlete has received a dinner ticket from the Athletic Office. Additional tickets for parents, siblings or other family members may be purchased for $10 each and are available in the TVHS Office from 8:00a.m.-3:30p.m., Mon - Fri.

We are looking forward to a great evening as we recognize the athletes and coaches of TVHS Athletics and hope you will join us on Wednesday, May 16th. Please call Cathy Lundeberg in the Athletic Office with any questions (760-0801, ext. 1001).

Inaugural Community Yard Sale Held At Tanque Verde High School

For shoppers losing their heads over bargains, replacements were readily available.

The Tanque Verde High School Parent Teacher Student Group (PTSG) successfully staged their inaugural Community Yard Sale in the high school parking lot.  Sellers were charged for a space in which to offer their items for sale, and the variety of merchandise was nearly as extensive as the day was sunny.

One seller arrayed his various books, appliances and, well, stuff - along a table and on the tailgate of his pickup truck. Clamped to the tailgate itself was an outboard motor which looked particularly handy for monsoon season.  Sellers had vintage T-shirts, Barbie luggage (official), appliances large and small, and a variety of what could variously be described as knick-knacks, doo-dads or, depending on where you grew up, tchotchkes and tinnef.

6th-graders from Agua Caliente Elementary School were doing a brisk trade in cold drinks, just the thing for the meteorological gear shift now ratcheting up in this drive-through toaster oven we call home. With drinks and eats in mind, tickets to the Tanque Verde Foundation's upcoming Taste Of Tanque Verde event could be purchased on site as well.  And, as proof there's something for everybody at this kind of sale, the guy with the outboard motor was selling a book on tricks to teach your dog, reminding even casual passersby with literary proclivities of T.S. Eliot's remark "Our high respect for a well-read person is praise enough for literature."  Nuff said.

Organizers got the word out with some website plugs, a blurb in the morning paper and a postcard mailing that blanketed our community, and they were pleased with the turnout of sellers for this first-ever event.  For buyers, it was a springtime take on a Forrest Gump-ish box of chocolates: melting slowly, but satisfyingly unpredictable.
