Acting Academy for Junior High Students

Enthusiastic students who learn to speak out clearly and relate confidently with others will have an inside track to lifetime success. We’re a place where all children, from the shy to the outgoing can develop at their own pace, with plenty of positive encouragement. Our specialty is using a wide range of unique drama activities to focus the bold, outspoken child and to draw out the quiet child or the inarticulate child and help them reach into themselves to discover their full potential. We use a progressive curriculum that allows students to have some serious fun, while also enabling them to develop: *Acting skills *Public speaking skills *Creative Thinking Skills *Leadership Skills *Team Building Skills *Networking and Social Skills *Quick Thinking & Spontaneity *Self Confidence and Self-Esteem *A Positive Approach to Life 

The Drama Kids “secret sauce” is a fun, fast paced and developmental curriculum consisting of over 450 unique and detailed lesson plans that ensures happy and successful students.

Foundations in Personal Finance

Students will learn the importance of saving, budgeting, investing, building wealth through compounding interest & time, avoiding credit card debt, and avoiding identity theft.  These and many more topics will be covered. By the end of the course the student will: 1. Understand the difference between a checking account, savings account and investment account. 2. Understand the importance of establishing a Personal Spending Diary/Budget - needs vs. wants - building security and wealth for their lifetime. 3. Understand the importance of compounding interest in everyday life - benefits (e.g. saving & investing) and detriments (e.g. loans & credit card interest/debt). 4. Understand the issue of identity theft and how to avoid it.

49er Country Club

We are excited to begin a new partnership with 49er Country Club. Starting this fall we will be offering after school classes at 49ers - no membership required! After school, students will ride the school bus to 49ers, and parents will pick up students at 49ers at the end of class. Open Enrollment Bus Release & Waiver Required.

Bricks 4 Kidz: Forces of Nature

Fasten your seatbelts; we’re in for some wild weather! This unit is all about the amazing and powerful forces of nature, as students explore the when, where, how, and why of all kinds of natural phenomenon. These lessons are designed to improve your child’s understanding of the forces of nature, while taking care not to alarm. Each model represents the motion of that particular weather or event, with a seat for a mini-figure to take in the action! Kids will love to build moving models of a tornado, a tsunami, an earthquake and a cyclone. Learn how they move, why they happen and what you can do to stay safe!

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art with a rich cultural heritage that is over 400 years old. Students will learn kicks, flowing dance-like escapes, percussion rhythms and songs that are all part of playing Capoeira. Student will gain physical strength, balance, focus, confidence, and flexibility that help in the Capoeira game and in everyday life. Instructor Anne Pollack (Mestra Luar do Sertao) is the only master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian arts in the State of Arizona. She has a PhD in Anatomy, is certified Medical Exercise Specialist, and has over 30 years of Capoeira training and over 20 years’ experience teaching Capoeira for all ages.

Chess Club

Learning and playing chess provides a host of benefits including improved memory, problem-solving skills, an enhanced ability to think ahead, and potential performance improvement in math and science. Our goal is to ensure that all of our students improve at chess, gain valuable life skills and, most importantly, have fun.  Open for all skill levels. Everyone will learn how to play, chess, notation, and strategies & tactics to help them improve.

Hip Hop Dance

Beat Drop Kidz is an after school program focused on teaching the art of Hip Hop Dance. We teach foundational Hip Hop moves. It’s tons of fun & it gives students a great way to combine creativity & physical activity! We follow the code of Hip Hop which is Peace, Unity, Love and Having Fun, and we encourage our students to follow the same code. New students get a free Beat Drop Kidz T-shirt! So come dance with us!

Hula Dance

Learn authentic Hawaiian Hula dance moves, Hawaiian language terminology, and songs. Each class will consist of rehearsing basic steps and techniques to music. Students will learn choreographed routines. No experience necessary!

Japanese Cooking & Culture

 The Japan born instructor will teach student how to make rolled Sushi and other popular Japanese food and snacks. The students will also learn how to use chopsticks and eat noodles that they have cooked. Each class will start with basic Japanese language lessons and the students will speak simple Japanese expressions. The class may be supplemented with other fun Japanese activities such as Origami as time permits. This will be a new cultural experience for American students to taste what Japanese children enjoy eating and to experience Japanese activities. Returning students are welcome.

KidzArt drawing classes are led by a KidzArt certified instructor who helps each student break down the week’s project into simple steps. Students will finish a unique masterpiece each class. Curriculum never repeats. No art experience necessary.

Martial Arts

Young Dragons Martial Arts, Fitness and Fun - Learn martial arts techniques, self-defense, stranger awareness and seasonal safety in this comprehensive program. Students have the opportunity to earn martial arts belt ranks and will build leadership, self-confidence and focus skills to use in everyday life.

Musical Theater

Acting, singing, and dancing make up the three main elements to a musical, and young actors will explore all components in Musical Theatre Class taught by Alexis Burrows. Students will learn vocal technique, the importance of character analysis and song interpretation, move to different rhythms, learn to audition, play theatre games, and perform improvisations. Students will also learn about some of the technical-sides of theatre, which includes lighting, make-up, costuming, and prop/set building. Students will be performing two 30-minute musicals per semester. Students should bring a snack for themselves and prepare a nursery rhyme and song for the first class.Grades 1-6

Nailed It: Edible Art

Students will be presented with mini-masterpieces and given the tools to recreate them. Creativity and imagination are key to completing this challenge. Projects will be evaluated in a fun and encouraging way and students will take home commemorative “Nailed It” photos.

Net/Wall Games

This class will explore strategies and skills associated with various net/wall games. These games include badminton, volleyball, spike ball, and pickle ball. Students will obtain a greater understanding of these various games through fun, progressive gameplay. At the end of the quarter, boys and girls will have the tools to play their favorite net/wall games outside of school.

Rock Wall Fun & Games

Beginning climbers will learn to boulder climb across the wall in a familiar and safe environment. Experienced climbers will practice their skills and will complete challenges and play games on the wall. We will also take breaks from the wall and play games including relay races, obstacle courses, and rec games.

TGA makes it convenient and fun for your child to learn and play tennis right on their school campus!  Students will experience a mix of tennis instruction, rules & etiquette lessons, educational components, character development lessons and physical activity as they advance through the five-level program.
