Foundations in Personal Finance (grades 6-8)

Students will learn the importance of saving, budgeting, investing, building wealth through compounding interest & time, avoiding credit card debt, and avoiding identity theft.  These and many more topics will be covered. By the end of the course the student will: 1. Understand the difference between a checking account, savings account and investment account. 2. Understand the importance of establishing a Personal Spending Diary/Budget - needs vs. wants - building security and wealth for their lifetime. 3. Understand the importance of compounding interest in everyday life - benefits (e.g. saving & investing) and detriments (e.g. loans & credit card interest/debt). 4. Understand the issue of identity theft and how to avoid it. 6th grade students will ride the bus to EGJH where parents will pick up after.

ACES Garden Club

The garden club will be the stewards of our school garden. We will learn to grow seedlings, plant & maintain a pollinator garden, add art & much more! All the while we will learn the fundamentals of cultivation, composting, harvesting, pollinations & more!

Ballet

Ballet is so much more than picking out a leotard, slipping into some tights, and strapping on ballet shoes. It’s about developing skills through dedication and perseverance. A few of the many benefits of ballet are better posture, building muscle and agility, sharpening cognitive function, and building social connections. In this class, students will learn the basic technique, combinations across the floor, and a routine! No experience necessary.

Bricks 4 Kidz: Spectacular Sports

Explore sports ranging from gymnastics to biking, mini-golf to soccer! This unit is a great way to get “sporty” kids building and get LEGO® fans interested in sports. Maybe they’ll be inspired to try a new sport, or build a model of their favorite sport!

Capoeira: Afro-Brazilian Martial Arts/Dance/Music

Capoeira Mandinga Tucson after-school program teaches the exciting Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira.

This art form has a rich cultural heritage and is over 400 years old. Students will learn flowing kicks, dance-like escapes, percussion rhythms and songs that build athleticism and musicality. Students will be empowered by increasing strength, balance, focus, and flexibility that help in playing Capoeira and in everyday life. Mestra (Master) Luar do Sertão (Anne Pollack) is the only master of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian arts in the State of Arizona. She has a PhD in Anatomy and is a certified Medical Exercise Specialist. Let’s play Capoeira!

Drama Kids International of Tucson

Enthusiastic students who learn to speak out clearly and relate confidently with others will have an inside track to lifetime success. Our specialty is using a wide range of unique drama activities to focus the bold, outspoken child and to draw out the quiet child or the inarticulate child and help them reach into themselves to discover their full potential. Unlike typical drama programs, most of which focus on preparation for a single performance, the Drama Kids “secret sauce” is a fun, fast paced, and developmental curriculum consisting of over 450 unique and detailed lesson plans that ensures happy and successful students.

Hawaiian Culture & Dance

Hawaii is well-known for its long tradition of welcoming and love, called the “Aloha spirit.” Embracing the Aloha Spirit, students will learn authentic Hawaiian Hula dance moves, Hawaiian language terminology & songs. Students will also learn about Hawaiian culture, geography (yes, we’ll learn about volcanoes!), lei making and more!

Hip Hop Dance

Beat Drop Kidz is an after school program focused on teaching the art of Hip Hop Dance. We teach foundational Hip Hop moves. It’s tons of fun & it gives students a great way to combine creativity & physical activity! We follow the code of Hip Hop which is Peace, Unity, Love and Having Fun, and we encourage our students to follow the same code. New students get a free Beat Drop Kidz T-shirt! So come dance with us!

Holiday Baking & Food Crafts

Students will help measure, mix, and prepare baked holiday favorites such as pies, cookies, and cupcakes. They will also enjoy food crafts such as making candy apples and gingerbread houses.

Students will choose from a number of Holiday craft options. Instructors will guide and assist students with tools and getting creative juices flowing, but the final project will be the product of the student.

Holiday Gift Making Workshop

Students will create handmade gifts for family and friends. Each class will focus on a certain project, guided by instructors. Students will use their creativity to make their own masterpiece. At the end of each class, students will wrap their gifts so they are ready for giving. Sign up for one class or all eight!

EGJH Students can ride the bus to ACES and be picked up at there after class.

Martial Arts

Young Dragons Martial Arts, Fitness and Fun - Learn martial arts techniques, self-defense, stranger awareness and seasonal safety in this comprehensive program. Students have the opportunity to earn martial arts belt ranks and will build leadership, self-confidence and focus skills to use in everyday life.

Musical Theater

Acting, singing, and dancing make up the three main elements to a musical. Young actors will explore all components in Musical Theater class. Students will learn vocal technique, the importance of character analysis and song interpretation, move to different rhythms, learn to audition, play theater games, and perform improvisations. Students will also learn about some of the technical sides of theater, which includes lighting, make-up, costuming, and prop/set building. 2nd quarter students will work backstage for the 1st quarter performance of “Halloween with the Addams Family” on 10/22 and perform in the 2nd quarter performance of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on 12/6.

Nailed It: Holiday Treats

Students will be presented with mini-masterpieces with Holiday themes. They will be asked to replicate the masterpieces and will be given the tools to do so. They will receive commemorative photos of their creations.

Origami & Japanese Activities

The students will be introduced to many fun Japanese activities. The first half of the nine weeks will be focused on Origami: paper folding activity. We will make animals, birds, flowers, dinosaurs, Ninja stars, and more with colorful square papers. We will further create some toys, jewelry, and ornaments for students to take home.  The other half of the session will be spent on other Japanese hands-on activities including cooking and tasting, train toys, folk tales, and wearing Kimono. Each class will start with simple Japanese language lessons. The students will learn to speak simple phrases and greetings.

Robotics!

Come explore coding with various robots! Participants will be using ozobots, Finch robots, Droids, and Edison robots. Each week will be a new challenge! Come Play!

Rock Wall Fun & Games

Beginning climbers will learn to boulder climb across the wall in a familiar and safe environment. Experienced climbers will practice their skills and will complete challenges and play games on the wall. We will also take breaks from the wall and play games including relay races, obstacle courses, and rec games.

Spanish

Exploratory Spanish for elementary students is fun language and culture exposure through conversation, games, projects, music and more. Students will learn greetings, colors, verbs and more. Each class is catered to the group of students registered. No experience necessary – open to beginners and continuing students.

Spikeball

Spikeball is a new sport that has been making headlines all over the nation. This game is a mix of volleyball and four-square while being played upon a round net. During this class students will be taught valuable skills and concepts applicable to the game.  Teamwork and communication will be emphasized while being physically active with peers!

TGA makes it convenient and fun for your child to learn and play tennis right on their school campus!  Students will experience a mix of tennis instruction, rules & etiquette lessons, educational components, character development lessons and physical activity as they advance through the five-level program.

Tinker Workshop

Create, Build, Learn & Explore in this art-based makerspace. We are excited to bring Tinker Workshop to ACES (and off of your dining table)! We've been collecting lots of fun, and hopefully inspiring things for your little creators to turn into magic. A variety of mixed media and recycled materials allow for endless ‘make and take’ creations.
