The Tanque Verde Unified School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Elizabeth Egan as the new Principal of Emily Gray Junior High School. She will succeed EGJH Principal Greg Miller, who has been promoted to the position of Director of Operations. Mrs. Egan, currently the school's Assistant Principal, will begin her new role on July 1, 2022, with the start of the SY 2022-23 academic year.

Mrs. Egan brings a wealth of experience which includes being the current Emily Gray JHS Assistant Principal since 2019, where she has been dedicated to building trust and positive relationships with students, staff, and families.  She values the collaborative process and the importance of having a team to support and encourage teaching and learning.  She provides students support by fostering their academic and personal excellence. She is a teaching and learning expert with a passion for the vision, mission and goals of the Tanque Verde Unified School District, “ensuring high levels of learning for ALL students.”

Mrs. Egan’s experience encompasses over 25 years of classroom and administrative experience.  She is skilled in classroom management, PLC training, PBIS and MTSS systems. While in the Tucson Unified School District, she assisted in Curriculum and Development through creating and writing math standards, and supporting best practices in mathematics instruction.  Mrs. Egan was selected as a Rodel Exemplary Teacher Semi-Finalist for her role in improving Pueblo Gardens Elementary School’s achievement level. She then served as a Curriculum Service Provider prior to her transition to the Tanque Verde Unified School District. Mrs. Egan holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bilingual and Multicultural Education, a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership, and endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Spanish.

In a survey conducted by the district, the qualities identified as being most important to the Emily Gray Junior High School community were: focus on relationship-building, collaboration and teamwork - with staff, students, parents and community members; a passion for education and supporting student success; strong communication skills; student-centered decision making; and experience in school leadership, operations and budgeting.

The interview committee, consisting of parents, teachers, and members of the district administrative leadership team, considered a group of finalists for the position from a large pool of candidates, and enthusiastically selected Mrs. Egan to recommend to the board. The TVUSD Governing Board voted to approve their recommendation on Wednesday, January 26, 2022.

“It was clear Beth has already made strong positive relationships with students and the community,” stated Superintendent Dr. Scott Hagerman. “She has deep knowledge of the work we are doing to ensure all students learn at high levels, and we look forward to her continued contributions to that work in her new role as the Emily Gray JHS Principal.”

“My aspiration to be principal of Emily Gray Jr. High School is inspired by my continuous commitment to families, teachers and the community,” stated Mrs. Egan. “I believe in supporting high levels of achievement for all students.  I  am committed to fostering academic and personal excellence for all our students. The time spent in junior high school may be the most important point in a young adolescent’s life. One of our primary goals is to prepare students to transition smoothly to high school, and while developing their independence and identifying their pathway to success.  I am so excited to continue this work in a new capacity as principal, in partnership with our wonderful community of students, educators and families.”

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Elizabeth Egan! We wish her continued success in her new leadership position at Emily Gray Junior High School.
