Board Statement on Racism and Discrimination

April 6, 2022

This is a statement by the Tanque Verde Unified School District Governing Board

Some recent reported incidents by a few, gives us all pause and appropriately has us

reflect on what the district, our teachers, staff, students and family can do to insure the

excellence of our school district continues in all facets of our student’s experience in our

schools.

First, let us be clear that under no circumstances does the Tanque Verde Unified School

District condone any behavior from students or staff members which promotes the

negative depiction of, or demeans any person or group of people. In particular, racism

and any other act of harassment will continue to be completely unacceptable. Second,

maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students, families and

staff will continue to be reflected in each and every policy our Governing Board

establishes, reviews or updates. Those policies will continue to hold that every

individual student and staff member in our school community should feel safe and

supported on our campuses.

As we all know, decency, respect and regard for others starts at home and must carry

over to the classroom or ball field. Tanque Verde School District has and will continue to

require and will pursue every tool possible to enhance our codes of conduct to insure

our students, our teachers and our staff can quickly intercede whenever a select few

choose to ignore what should be at the center of each and every one of us.
