Last week, students took the stage for the school’s annual Optimist Club speech competition, delivering heartfelt and inspiring speeches centered around this year’s prompt: “The moment I realized I belonged — my definition of community.”
Six students participated in the event: Leah Stein, Hope Trask, Nina Younis, Charlotte Harris, Sadie Fata, and Brooke Lamont. Each contestant presented a unique and deeply personal perspective, reflecting on experiences that shaped their understanding of belonging and community.
The competition left a strong impression on both the audience and judges, who were moved by the authenticity and emotional depth of the speeches.
After careful deliberation, Nina Younis earned 3rd place, Hope Trask took 2nd, and Sadie Fata was awarded 1st place for her outstanding speech. Sadie will go on to represent the school at the state-level competition next month.
The event highlighted not only the students’ public speaking skills but also their ability to connect through storytelling, making it a memorable and meaningful experience for all involved.
