Coach Tom Belter brings a wealth of knowledge and high school coaching experience to the Tanque Verde Baseball program. He began his coaching career in 2007 as an assistant coach at Empire High School before assuming the head coach position in 2009. While at Empire, his teams amassed 159 wins with 15 of those coming from state tournament competition including state championship appearances in 2010 and 2013. Following the 2018 season, coach Belter resigned to pursue a master’s degree in social work. In 2019, he was asked to take over the coaching duties of the Catalina High School baseball program after their coach abruptly resigned 10 games into the season. Coach Belter grabbed the reins of a 2-8 team and subsequently guided them to a state quarterfinal appearance. At the completion of the 2019 season, coach Belter resumed his studies and received his Master of Social Work degree from Arizona State in May 2020. Tom Belter spent 26 years in the military serving his country. He is married to Tammy, his wife of 26 years, and they have 5 children and 9 grandchildren. His coaching honors include: AIA Section Coach of the Year 2012 and 2013 AIA Division Coach of the Year 201 Arizona Republic Coach of the Year 2010 and 2013 AZBCA All-Stars Coach 2010 and 2013 Southern Arizona All-Stars Coach 2018.
