Professional Learning Communities (PLC)

The Tanque Verde Unified School District uses a process to increase student learning. The process was developed initially by Rick Dufour and Bob Eaker. It is based on the district functioning as a professional learning community (PLC). The PLC process is based on three big ideas.

1. Focus on Learning.

2. Focus on Building a Collaborative Culture.

3. Focus on Results.

To achieve these ideas, all teachers are on teams that engage in research-based practices that include: picking the most important standards for all students to learn (called essential standards), developing a guaranteed and viable curriculum, and looking at student work weekly to develop interventions and extensions to refine instructional practices.  For more information about PLCs see All Things PLC
