Ms. Alicia Marrano, Art and Animation Teacher at Emily Gray Junior High was named the 2025 Middle Division Outstanding Art Educator by the Arizona Arts Educators Association.
Ms. Marrano has been a certified visual arts educator for more than 20 years, and teaching art and theater arts to students of all ages for over 30 years. Throughout her career, Ms. Marrano has sought to expand the scope of her teaching and knowledge through professional development opportunities in the areas of arts integration, STEAM, gifted education, and digital arts education.
She developed the high school arts and theatre arts programs when the high school opened in 2005. Later she advocated for full time elementary art in the district, which finally became a reality in 2015. Currently Ms. Marrano is focused on building a strong art and animation program at the junior high, and invested in further implementing Teaching Artistic Behavior (TAB) pedagogies in her courses, giving students greater agency in their development as artists.
